In the beautiful location of Katerini Beach, in Northern Greece, the 5 Stars hotel complex of exceptional quality and luxury, Mediterranean Village Resorts, was designed to be constructed in 2008. In a total area of 54,000 yd2 (45,000 m2), the construction facilities include many independent or connected buildings and infrastructures, with exquisite architectural elements.
This special architectural creation will have to be able to withstand the many problems arousing in a construction of such volume in a seaside environment, since the hotel complex is located just a few meters away from the sea shore. Part of the design is consisted of buildings from reinforced concrete, which also include subterranean facilities of one and two levels below the ground and even below the sea level.
The reinforced concrete will not only have to be absolutely waterproofed, protected from corrosion, due to chlorides penetration, but also resistant to the mechanism of carbonation. For all these reasons, the project’s engineers, in collaboration with the propriety group, decided to use the PENETRON ADMIX® system for the total waterproofing and protection of the concrete constructions, in a combination also known as «white tank system – permanently waterproofed concrete».
