Description:
The Kelp Tank at the California Science Center is an 188,000 gallon (712,000 liters) tank with sharks, moray eels, rays, rockfish and spiny lobsters (and over1,500 other fish ) where kelp algae grows as large as trees. The Kelp Tank design combines a concrete structure with acrylic viewing panels and a 24-foot walk through tube at the bottom of the tank – and a wave machine that simulates natural ocean movement. This piston also generates considerable water forces on the entire structure making waterproofing of the structure extremely important.
Products Used:
To meet the demands of this aquarium, PENETRON and PENECRETE MORTAR were used on the inside of the Kelp Tank to ensure total waterproofing of the entire concrete water containment structure.
Description:
The wastewater treatment plant was built in Katerini (population: 84,000) to treat the city's entire sewage volume.
Products Used:
Due to concern about possible leakage through the cold joints in the concrete, over 3,000m of PENEBAR SW 45 with PENEBAR PRIMER was installed as a waterproofing barrier to prevent seepage. PENETRON was also applied to waterproof 26,000m2 of concrete.
Description:
Originally completed in 1960, the 282km² Kariba Dam has a wall 128m high and half a mile long and is one of the largest dams in the world. Damming Africa's fourth largest river (the Zambezi River), it provides electricity to Zambia and Zimbabwe and also supports a thriving local fishing industry.
Products Used:
The PENETRON System was used to remedy water leakage and the thoroughly moist concrete areas of the dam; this includes parts of the main dam structure and adjacent areas and the utility rooms.
Description:
Called a “project of national pride,” the Karachi Port Trust Fountain was inaugurated by President Pervez Musharraf in 2006. The fountain is located next to the northern rock of a series of islands known as the Oyster Rocks, off the Karachi Harbor. The fountain is the world's third tallest, shooting water to the height of 620 feet (190m) when operating at full force!
Products Used:
PENETRON ADMIX was selected after several tests and used in the fountain piles as well as the concrete structure for protection against aggressive seawater.
Description:
Jatiúca Trade Center includes residential, commercial and leisure facilities encompassing a total area of 13,000m². It offers many modern amenities in a superb location. A key challenge was to provide 12,000 parking spaces for 9 towers that are built close to the beach.
Products Used:
The basement garage stretches over 2 basement levels; the base slab was completely waterproofed with PENETRON ADMIX and PENEBAR SW-55 in the joints. The challenges of completely waterproofing the 13’000 sqm basement slab as well as fulfill the other requirements of limiting excavation works and speeding up the construction schedule, were successfully accomplished with the Penetron system.
Description:
Located directly on the beachfront in Surfer’s Paradise, the luxury Jade Apartments are unique in design with an elliptical outer form and only a single unit per floor.
Products Used:
PENETRON ADMIX was used to waterproof the basement (10m below the water table) and also provide resistance to chloride ion penetration in this marine environment. It was also used in the base slab, elevator pits, in-situ concrete retaining walls, podium transfer deck, swimming pools, terraces and even the roof. Because PENEBAR SW 55 does not swell immediately after getting wet, over 1,200m of the waterstop was used in construction joints in the elevator pits, retaining walls, podium transfer deck and swimming pool. It allowed the builder to form up the majority of walls without having to pour concrete immediately after the waterstop was put in place.
